DAS in Action : Atlanta
Distributed Antenna Systems Connecting America

Mobile devices have become the “must have” product of the 21st Century. In fact, there are now more mobile devices than people in the United States. This love-affair with mobile devices and applications means wireless operators and business owners need to find new solutions to bring wireless coverage and capacity to their customers.

DAS In Action: Atlanta is a two-day event produced by The DAS Forum, a member organization of PCIA –The Wireless Infrastructure Association. This year’s event at Atlanta’s Marriott Marquis will focus on best practices in deploying Distributed Antenna Systems both outdoors and inside buildings, including two tours of a DAS deployments — one at the Georgia Aquarium and another at Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves. The DAS Forum’s “DAS In Action” events are a premiere opportunity for industry leaders to showcase their products and services, network, collaborate and exchange information.

Enterprise Solutions
There are a variety of options to bring wireless coverage and capacity inside buildings, but which technologies are best matched to which environments? This panel will explore the strengths and weaknesses of various technologies and how they work together to deliver the best overall customer experience.

Indoor RF Design and Planning: Optimizing the Ideal Network
As DAS deployments get more complex, housing different technologies across many frequencies, engineers need to take more measurements than ever. How will the in-building network impact the macrocellular network, an existing Wi-Fi or public-safety network? This presentation will discuss the best practices and full workflow of an indoor measuring campaign, from pre-design, through the design and post-commissioning of an in-building DAS.

The Carrier Perspective
As more enterprises deploy DAS solutions, operators have their own technical and policy requirements. This panel will discuss how the operator views In-building solutions and how to make the operator a partner, rather than a roadblock.

It’s a Small-Cell World
DAS, femtocells, picocells, microcells and metrocells all make up components of today’s heterogeneous networks. Cube technology is lurking on the horizon. This panel will explore the variety of technologies available to bring coverage and capacity to wireless users today and in the future, separating the hype from the realities.

Wi-Fi and Your DAS
Wi-Fi technology is pervasive in homes and businesses throughout the United States. Where does Wi-Fi fit into the DAS experience? This panel will explore the technical and business considerations in deploying DAS and Wi-Fi from the carrier, OEM, venue owner and end-user perspectives.

Building Codes, Public Safety and DAS
Many communities are adopting national fire codes that require public-safety personnel to be able to communicate reliably inside buildings, especially in stairways and parking garages – places the commercial cellular signal doesn’t always reach. This panel will educate audience members on trends in mission-critical communications and how they impact venue stakeholders.

Rules, Regulations and Roadblocks
Like their macrocellular counterparts, DAS faces a plethora of regulations at the federal, state and local level. While the highest levels of federal government have been working to ease DAS deployments, local and state jurisdictions do not always follow suit. This panel will update stakeholders about challenges and opportunities of DAS in the regulatory environment.

The Evolution of DAS
Not long ago, DAS solutions were fairly straight-forward, designed to bring coverage to areas that couldn’t be served by traditional cellular towers. The wireless data explosion changed all that. This discussion will look ahead to see how DAS and small-cell solutions are evolving to withstand and outpace the deluge of traffic on the wireless network.

Winning Strategies at the Municipal Level
Municipal governments have long struggled with budget and personnel pressures so trying to manipulate new technology deployments like DAS into existing ordinances is challenging, to say the least. This presentation will discuss best practices for working with local governments to get the DAS deployed in a timely manner and in a way that serves the public interest.

The Turner Field Tour
DAS In Action: Atlanta attendees will have a chance to see a DAS deployed at Turner Field, home of the Atlanta Braves. Stadiums and other large venues are installing Distributed Antenna Systems to meet their customers’ demands to upload pictures and video, chat and text while they are attending ballgames, concerts and other entertainment experiences.
